Specialist contractor chooses CEMEX Permatite

1,500 cubic metres of new waterproof concrete used for construction of major leisure development in London

PERMATITE, a new waterproof concrete solution from CEMEX, has been used for the first time in a UK construction project. Specialist contractors Citybasements are currently building a split-level private leisure development that includes a 25m swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna beneath the garden of an exclusive residency in London.

Some 1,500 cubic metres of Permatite were supplied by the CEMEX plant in Hendon for the reinforced external walls and underground swimming pool. The material – which is used in conjunction with state-of-the-art moisture barrier technology developed by waterproofing specialists Fosroc – was specifically chosen for a number of benefits, including reduced risk of reinforcement corrosion, improved workability and long-term durability.

Available in a range of strengths, grades and cement types, Permatite is suitable for basements, tunnels, water tanks and other similar applications.

CEMEX technical director Steve Crompton commented: ‘After extensive testing we are able to offer clients an integral waterproof concrete as a ‘one-stop-shop’ supplier, avoiding the need for separate purchases of waterproofing agents or systems. Clients also have the benefit of Permatite being backed by a full CEMEX guarantee.’

Martin Ferriter of Citybasements said: ‘We poured a sequence of RC slabs and walls and each pour went very well. Permatite clearly has good flow and working characteristics so we are very pleased with the end result.’
