Six Volvo A30F haulers for C J Pryor

Civil engineering and earthmoving firm supplements fleet with new F-Series articulated haulers

HARLOW-based C J Pryor (Plant) Ltd have taken delivery of six new Volvo A30F’s, bringing their fleet of Volvo articulated haulers to 24.

C J Pryor (Plant) Ltd are no strangers to running Volvo articulated haulers and can trace this association back over three decades operating 860, 861 A25 and A30 units. Now six new A30F’s have joined Pryor’s fleet and have been put to work on several new contracts the company has been awarded.

‘With our contracts portfolio expanding we needed to add new haulers to the fleet and opted for the reliability and product support we have enjoyed in the past from Volvo,’ commented plant director Mick Munn. ‘And not least the strong residual values when it’s time to replace them.’

All six new trucks have been supplied with Volvo’s Blue Service Agreement, coupled to a three-year, 6,000h driveline warranty. ‘With the level of sophistication on today’s capital equipment, it makes sense in utilizing the skill sets on offer from the manufacturer,’ said Mr Munn. ‘With Volvo’s support centre at Duxford and their nationwide network of customer support centres and mobile engineers, we have total peace of mind with this latest investment.’

Powered by an electronically controlled, six-cylinder, 265hp turbocharged Volvo V-ACT diesel engine, the new A30F hauler meets the requirements of Stage IIIB emissions legislation. Purpose built by Volvo, the engine is designed to exactly match the Volvo drive train, ensuring the best use of power and torque, even in tough working conditions. It is matched to a torque converter with built in lock-up function and fitted with a fully automatic fast adaptive transmission.

The rest of the Volvo designed and built powertrain has been reinforced to cope with the higher torque output of the engine. According to Volvo, the new F-Series is not only more environmentally friendly, it is also up to 4% more fuel efficient than the E-Series machines.

With a carrying capacity of 28 tonnes and heaped capacity of 18.1 cubic metres, the A30F has a maximum speed of 53km/h. The trucks supplied to C J Pryor (Plant) Ltd have been fitted with optional cantilever tailgates and side extensions for maximum load retention, while Volvo’s CareTrack telematic system is fitted as standard.
