Sirius Group break new ground with Volvo machines
Leeds-based contractor acquires four new Volvo excavators as part of plant replacement programme
THE Sirius Group, specialists in land remediation and decontamination, have taken delivery of four new Volvo excavators for the first time due to an overall competitive package and the prospect of significant fuel savings.
The Volvo machines – a 22-tonne EC220D, two 25-tonne EC250Ds and a 30-tonne EC300D – have all been deployed on a range of specialized remediation projects that the Sirius Group are actively involved in around the UK.
‘Whilst this is the first time we’ve bought Volvo’s for our plant fleet, we are pretty familiar with the product having hired various models from local hire companies over a period of time and we have been impressed with the quality and specification of the machines,’ said Stuart Kirk, operations manager for the Sirius Group.
‘We have also noted that when comparing like for like the Volvo product offered a significant fuel saving over other competitive products, so this, coupled with our own operators’ acceptance of the machines and a competitive package on offer, were the deciding factors to opt for Volvo.’
The four new Volvo excavators join a mixed fleet of equipment, including dozers, drilling rigs, screens, crushers and dumpers all of which are dedicated to the Sirius Group’s core business of land remediation, decontamination and specialised demolition contracts. All the excavators have been supplied with Volvo’s Blue service agreement, including machine inspection.
‘Operating nationwide means we also need to align ourselves with suppliers who can support us on a national basis and Volvo have that ability with their support centres and network of mobile engineers,’ explained Mr Kirk. ‘Having Volvo engineers maintain the machines on a regular basis makes complete sense to us and this coupled with the CareTrack telemetry gives us complete peace of mind.’
