Scottish contractor upgrades fleet with new Volvo ADT
Dumfries-based GTR Contracts takes delivery of a Stage IV-compliant Volvo A25G articulated dumptruck
GTR Contracts have bolstered their mixed fleet of equipment with the addition of a new Volvo A25G articulated hauler, which will help the business to fulfil its commitments to road construction and maintenance contracts within the forestry sector.
Meeting the requirements of Stage IV emissions legislation, the Volvo A25G is powered by a 235kW electronically controlled, six-cylinder, turbocharged Volvo V-ACT diesel engine which delivers high torque at low engine speeds, resulting in good fuel efficiency, high performance, quicker engine response and reduced wear/longer service life.
Purpose built by Volvo, the engine is designed to exactly match the Volvo drivetrain, ensuring the best use of power and torque, even in tough working conditions. It is matched to a torque converter with built in lock-up function and fitted with a fully automatic fast adaptive transmission.
With a carrying capacity of 24 tonnes and heaped capacity of 15.6 cubic metres, the A25G has a maximum speed of 53km/h. The hauler is also fitted with Volvo’s CareTrack telematics system as standard, allowing remote monitoring of a wide range of machine functions (location, fuel consumption, service reminders etc) to help optimize customer operations.
To meet GTR’s specific work requirements, the Volvo A25G is equipped with a full cantilever tailgate for maximum load retention and features low-profile 750/65R25 tyres.
Garry Russell, managing director of GTR Contracts, said: ‘Having the truck running on floatation tyres is absolutely critical for working on forest roads since the ultra-low ground-bearing pressure prevents damage and rutting and lessens the impact on the environment.’
The new Volvo A25G hauler joins a mixed fleet of plant operated by GTR, including excavators, agricultural machinery and three Volvo motor-graders equipped with Trimble 3D laser scanners.
