Reducing maintenance with Wacker Neuson
New universal rollers with maintenance-free lower body now available
THANKS to their permanent lubrication, the Wacker Neuson RT56 SC-2 and RT82 SC-2 universal rollers are said to achieve longer operating times than were possible before.
As there is no longer any need to change the oil in the lower body over the entire service life of the machine, overall time and costs for maintenance are reduced and operation becomes much more efficient. In addition, a more robust exciter motor improves the operating balance of the rollers.
The drive gear that is located in the lower body, and the gearbox and ball bearings in the vibration-generating exciter receives high-quality permanent lubrication in the new-generation models. Previously, it was necessary to renew the lubricating oil for these heavily stressed mechanical components regularly for a number of hours.
Now, maintenance of the RT56 SC-2 and RT82 SC-2 rollers is limited to just one annual hydraulic oil change and replacement of the hydraulic return filter.
Oliver Kolmar, production manager for soil and asphalt compaction at Wacker Neuson, explained: ‘Following numerous developments, we are now offering our customers another considerable increase in productivity with a maintenance-free lower body that is unique on the market. If they schedule their annual maintenance during the winter months, operators are able to count on this roller throughout the entire construction season.’
An additional improvement is provided by the more robust housing fitted to the exciter motor, which further increases durability and reliability, even in continuous operations under arduous work conditions.
The RT SC2 rollers are moved using an intuitive remote control system. This means that the operator is not subjected to either harmful vibrations or exhaust fumes and dust.
Further protection for the operator and construction site workers is provided by the infrared data transmission. If the line of sight between the roller and remote control is obstructed, or if the distance becomes too great the roller immediately stops. It also automatically switches off if the proximity recognition sensor detects that the safety distance between the roller and operator is insufficient.
