Red Materials take UK’s first Caterpillar D6 dozer

Cat D6 dozer

New-generation Cat machine offers improved efficiency, fuel economy and operator comfort

RED Materials Ltd, UK specialists in the treatment, reuse and disposal of construction soils, have invested in a new Cat D6 Dozer – the first to be sold in the UK – in a deal with Finning UK & Ireland.

The machine, which replaces a Caterpillar D6T dozer, was chosen for its efficiency and enhanced technology and joins Red’s expanding Cat machinery fleet that includes articulated dumptrucks, wheel loaders and excavators.

Red operate a number of waste-processing facilities across England and Wales; providing disposal routes for multiple construction waste streams, including hazardous, non-hazardous and inert soils. The company’s main operations involve the sourcing/importation of suitable soils for large-scale landfill and quarry restoration projects.

Red have also extended their range of capabilities, undertaking landfill engineering and capping contracts. The business, meanwhile, continues to have a strong partnership with Finning and ordered the next-generation Cat D6 dozer, thanks to the improved versatility, efficiency and technology built into the machine.

The dozer’s increased productivity is optimized by a four-speed fully automatic transmission that also delivers up to 20% better fuel efficiency than a non-lock up clutch model.

With the operator in mind, the completely redesigned cab is fitted with a 10in anti-glare touchscreen that provides an easy-to-use operator interface. For enhanced comfort, distributed cab heating/cooling with automatic temperature and blower control circulates air more effectively around the operator.

With the D6 dozer, customers have a broad suite of Cat Connect GRADE technologies to choose from; to help operators be more productive and efficient by automating machine control and guidance.

The dozer also has up-to-the-minute monitoring capability through Cat’s ProductLink telematics system that provides key machinery data, such as location, operating hours, fuel usage and productivity. The information can be used in monthly performance reports to help fleet managers and operators increase machinery uptime and improve fuel efficiency.

David Reader, operations director for Red Materials, commented: ‘We are delighted to be the first in the UK to receive the next-gen D6. Our previous Cat dozer had clocked over 7,000 hours with no issues, which is a testament to the build quality of the Caterpillar products. We decided to upgrade because of the fuel-efficiency capabilities and technological advancements the Next Gen range offers.’
