R Collard win prestigious waste-management award
Hampshire-based firm recognized at the 14th Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management
CONSTRUCTION waste specialists R Collard are celebrating after winning the award for ‘Waste Transfer and Skip Hire Business of the Year’ at this year’s Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management event.
Eighteen months ago, R Collard made a key strategic decision to increase their capacity to collect and process waste while integrating state-of-the-art technology to recycle more material into feedstock for use in local construction and civil engineering projects.
The business expansion saw the acquisition of two local waste businesses and significant investment in R Collard’s logistics operation and sorting/processing equipment, together with in-house skills and training, allowing the company to significantly increase their geographical scope and deliver industry-leading health and safety and environmental performance.
Commenting on the standard of entries received, John Woodruff, principal consultant at Ricardo and one of this year’s judges, said: ‘The quality of the entries was extremely high, and as always, it was heartening to see the range of initiatives and developments which are taking place across a wide spectrum of sectors. The judging process was extremely difficult, and whilst the finalists represent genuine excellence, all the entries demonstrated ambition, endeavour and an understanding of good resource management.’
On collecting the accolade, James Chillery, commercial director for R Collard, commented: ‘We are delighted to win the Waste Transfer and Skip Hire Business award having made the strategic decision to significantly expand and improve this area of our operations. The judges recognized the positive impact this is having on the environment and the local economy and they appreciated the level of investment we have made.’
Established in 2003 and widely regarded as one of the most prestigious award schemes in the waste and recycling sector, the Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management aims to recognize achievement and promote efforts in recycling, reuse and waste reduction.
