Quinn take sustainable approach to deliveries

Quinn blended logistics

Company’s blended logistics solution reduces environmental impact and improves efficiency

AS manufacturers of a broad portfolio of building products for the UK and Irish markets, Quinn Building Products say they are able to offer a distinct advantage to customers and merchants – one that effectively reduces the company’s carbon footprint. The solution involves the use of blended logistics to ensure that the company’s delivery lorries carry full loads whenever possible.

While it is common for lorries to transport partial loads of goods due to demand and weight restrictions, the problem with this is clear. Apart from the increased transport costs involved, it means more trips are required to transport the same volume of products.

Quinn say that thanks to their broad product portfolio, which includes a mix of heavier materials such as cement and concrete blocks, and lighter products, such as PIR and EPS insulation, they can carry mixed loads to ensure no lorry space is wasted.

This helps cut the number of vehicles required on the road, thereby reducing the company’s environmental impact and making deliveries significantly more economical and efficient. For Quinn’s customers, it ensures greater flexibility and speed of delivery, as multiple products can be delivered in one load.

Commenting on the use of blended logistics and how this fits with Quinn’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing, business support manager Rose Mullally said: ‘There aren’t many companies who can offer the same versatility, as they don’t have the same multi-product portfolio.

‘The scheme has been very well received by our customers, who are seeking to partner with companies that can demonstrate a real commitment to sustainability, as well as offering them greater flexibility.

‘We’re dispatching more than 70 loads of product to the UK and Ireland daily, so there’s a significant reduction in the volume of lorries on the road due to our mixed-load capabilities.’
