P&T Woodruff choose Volvo Globetrotter cab

Volvo FM-450 8x4 truckmixer

Globetrotter LXL-cabbed FM truckmixer boosts productivity for South Wales-based haulage contractor

CARDIFF-based P&T Woodruff Haulage Ltd have increased their fleet size to three with the acquisition of a Globetrotter LXL-cabbed Volvo FM-450 8x4, 8m cubic metre truckmixer.

The truck, which was supplied by Truck and Bus Wales & West, Pontypridd, operates on behalf of Hope Construction Materials across the south and east of England, as well as South Wales.

Tim Woodruff, who runs the company with his brother Philip, says the new Volvo FM-450 is delivering high levels of productivity – thanks to its off-road ability on construction sites.

‘I drive the FM and the ground clearance is fantastic, thanks to the straight front axles and high chassis,’ said Mr Woodruff. ‘This FM also has very good approach and departure angles, and is proving to be very capable in deep mud and on wet sites.

‘I’ve had to take it through axle-deep mud and water on a number of occasions and the excellent traction and ground clearance have been much appreciated, as have the Bridgestone L355 tyres on the drive axles. The turning circle is very good too.’

P&T Woodruff Haulage Ltd’s new FM 8x4 is equipped with an 11-litre D450K engine rated at 450hp, 12-speed manual gearbox, McPhee mixer body, rear-view and near-side view cameras, and Durabright polished aluminium wheels.

At around 65,000km, the FM-450’s annual mileage is low, but Mr Woodruff specified the Globetrotter LXL cab, which offers 2.1m of internal height and extra storage lockers, as he spends four nights out each week in the cab.
