On Song at Tong
The sound performance and reliability of two existing Volvo machines has prompted Tong Farm Quarry proprietor, Jim Laycock, to purchase his third Volvo excavator – an EC290C.
Until now, the quarry’s existing 36-tonne Volvo EC360B and larger EC460B had been used to extract and process the shale deposits at the site, which is situated on the Lancashire fells near the town of Bacup. ‘Both machines have performed very well indeed and as we needed to increase our production, we decided to purchase another Volvo to look after the processing side, leaving these larger machines to focus purely on extraction,’ said Mr Laycock. The new 29-tonne machine, which was supplied with a Volvo Blue Service agreement, is now being used to feed material through the plant for sizing and screening.
