New Volvo trucks for Britaniacrest Recycling Ltd
Surrey-based company ramps up vehicle fleet with mixture of FE, FMX and FH models
BRITANIACREST Recycling have taken delivery of nine new Volvo trucks to boost their operations in the south-east of England. The latest FE, FMX and FH models join a strong Volvo fleet of over 45 vehicles.
Eight of the new Volvo trucks feature rigid chassis and factor-fitted lower passenger door glazing panels for increased safety levels. Two 18-tonne FE 4x2 skip loaders are powered by D8K engines (250hp) and equipped with Hyva skip loader bodies with the manufacturer’s Easy Sheet systems.
‘In the past we’ve used Volvo FL skip vehicles, but the I-Shift gearbox is a big attraction with the FEs. The drivers love it, as it needs no intervention,’ said Richard Foss, director of Britaniacrest.
Six Volvo FMX 8x4s all come with 5.1m wheelbases, 460hp engines and day cabs. Four of the units are tipper trucks boasting 13 cubic metre-capacity Thompson Loadmaster bodies and Edbro CX15 hydraulic systems. Another FMX truck is a tipper grab; again, with a Loadmaster body but equipped with an Epilson crane and Edbro TS32 underfloor tipping ram.
Britaniacrest have also invested in an FMX hook loader with Hyva Titan 26-56 equipment, while the company’s sole FH tractor unit is fitted with a Globetrotter cab on Extra High chassis with rear air suspension.
The FH rigid, with a 3.2m wheelbase, is powered by a Volvo D13K engine (540hp) and comes with alloy wheels, strobe warning lights and a FORS Gold-accredited six-camera system.
The new fleet of Volvos will work across Britaniacrest Recycling’s network of depots and each truck is supplied with a three-year Volvo Blue service agreement, which will be carried out by MC Truck and Bus’ Burgess Hill dealership.
Mr Foss commented: ‘Our skip loader fleet operates relatively locally, whilst the tippers cover a larger area that includes the South East and South Coast. The FH and FMX tractor units haul moving floor trailers across a wider operating sphere. Volvo makes a good all-round, strong and reliable truck. Our drivers find them comfortable and they are the ideal fleet vehicle.’
