Company strengthens commitment to sustainable infrastructure with two key appointments

TARMAC have reinforced their commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions with the appointment of Kate Rudman as wind solutions director, and Will Pearson as nuclear commercial director. Bringing deep industry expertise, Tarmac say these strategic hires will enhance the company’s ability to support the UK’s growing renewable energy and nuclear sectors with innovative, lower-carbon construction materials and solutions.

As the UK accelerates its transition to net zero, major support for offshore wind, nuclear energy, and wider renewables infrastructure is shaping the country’s future energy mix. With sustainability central to Tarmac’s operations, these new appointments will enable earlier engagement with project developers, helping to optimize material choices, provide logistics solutions, reduce carbon footprints, and ensure infrastructure is built with long-term environmental considerations and circularity in mind.

Kate Rudman joins Tarmac with extensive experience in offshore wind and renewables, having worked across the full project lifecycle, from early-stage development to commissioning and decommissioning. She has held senior roles with leading developers and consultants, where she played a key role in floating and fixed-bottom offshore wind projects across the UK and internationally.

Ms Rudman said: ‘Having previously looked at projects from an early stage, it is exciting to be part of the supply chain, realizing these projects and providing solutions. The supply chain plays a huge role in delivering these large-scale projects and offering real carbon reductions.

‘Tarmac are uniquely positioned to support offshore renewables projects at every stage, from port infrastructure upgrades to foundation materials and onshore civils works. We are keen to engage early with developers, to provide solutions that reduce project risks, minimize environmental impact, optimize material use, and support circular economy principles. I’m excited to be part of a team that’s actively driving innovation in low-carbon solutions for renewable energy.’

Will Pearson brings decades of expertise in the nuclear sector, with a background in engineering consultancy, business strategy, and supporting new nuclear technologies across the UK and internationally. As the UK embarks on a new era of nuclear development spanning gigawatt-scale reactors, small modular reactors (SMRs), and fusion technology, his role will focus on aligning Tarmac’s specialist materials and expertise with the sector’s evolving needs.

Mr Pearson said: ‘Nuclear power is a cornerstone of the UK’s net-zero ambitions, and with major projects on the horizon, the industry has a unique opportunity to build with sustainability at its core.

‘Tarmac’s experience in delivering large-scale infrastructure, coupled with their commitment to lower-carbon solutions, means we can provide safer, more cost-effective and more sustainable construction materials for nuclear developments. I look forward to working with clients to integrate innovative materials that reduce environmental impact while meeting the exacting performance standards of the nuclear industry.’

Alex Wright, national business development director at Tarmac, added: ‘The UK’s energy transition requires infrastructure that is not only robust, but also sustainable. With Kate and Will on board, we can provide even more specialist direction to our clients, ensuring they benefit from lower-carbon, durable materials that support net-zero targets. Their expertise will help us strengthen relationships across the renewable energy and nuclear sectors, allowing us to engage earlier in the project lifecycle and develop tailored solutions that drive real impact.’
