New ready-mixed concrete plant for Manchester
Aggregate Industries boost capacity with second plant in the Greater Manchester area
AGGREGATE Industries have opened their second ready-mixed concrete plant in Greater Manchester, to cater for rapidly growing demand in the area.
The new high-capacity site – just off the M56 in Wythenshaw – is situated between Manchester city centre and Manchester Airport.
Both areas are currently undergoing a high volume of major improvement works, including the construction of hotels, hospitals and university accommodation, that require extensive supplies of concrete.
The new plant is capable of providing up to 200 cubic metres of concrete per hour from its two twin-shaft mixer units, whilst its location means it is close to its cement and aggregates supply sources at Cauldon and Buxton, with GGBS cement filler coming in via the port at Runcorn.
Paul Halpin, territory sales manager at Aggregate Industries, said: ‘With our established ready-mixed concrete plant in Salford running at capacity, we had to turn down projects in this rapidly developing region due to lack of resources.
‘The addition of the new plant means we are now well positioned to meet the demands of Greater Manchester and become the supplier of choice.
‘The plant is designed with efficiency in mind – with our receiving hopper minimizing truck and shovel movements around site – and is able to provide the full range of Aggregate Industries’ concrete and screed portfolio.
'Its two loading heads make it capable of a speedy turnaround, which is key for customers who wish to collect concrete.’
