New JCB X Series excavator for A.R.T. Demolition

Recycling contractor heaps praise on demo-spec JCB 220X excavator 

LINCOLN-based A.R.T. Demolition have purchased one of the first demolition-spec JCB X Series excavators – praising its durability, technology and quiet operation. Supplied by dealers TC Harrison JCB, the new 220X model has been configured for dismantling duties in the most arduous demolition environments, with the addition of cab protection and heavy undercarriage guards.

‘We choose JCB equipment wherever possible as we are proud to support a great British manufacturer,’ said Adam Thurlby, managing director of A.R.T. Demolition. ‘The reliability is excellent and the backup from our dealer is second to none. We know just how much detail has gone into this machine so we knew it was destined to be special. The finished version does not disappoint. I am a big fan of the existing JS models but this has been thoroughly overhauled and taken to the next level.’

The 20-tonne JCB 220X excavator has been designed to provide maximum operator comfort, durability and reliability in operation. Over a four-year development period, JCB have undertaken a programme of intensive component and product testing, to achieve increased levels of build quality and reliability for customers in this advanced new machine. 

The X Series machine features a 15% larger cab with integral ROPS structure, reduced noise levels, simple user interface and stronger side doors for greater strength and increased protection. They also benefit from a central main boom mounted for increased digging accuracy and durability, and a 200mm wider upper structure that delivers improved performance. 

Chris Bills, operator for A.R.T. Demolition, commented: ‘We are mainly using the new JCB on secondary demolition applications and it is performing well with a range of attachments, including a concrete pulverizer. I’ve already put the machine through its paces and I’m impressed. The cab layout is fantastic, the level of technology is incredibly sophisticated and I could not believe just how quiet the 220X is.’

The 220X joins A.R.T. Demolition’s extensive line-up of JCB excavators. These include: a compact 86C-1; three JS220 models; a JS330 unit; and two flagship 42-tonne JS370 machines both featuring heavy-duty modifications, fitted by Newark-based MCB Brothers who also provided additional protection on the demolition firm’s X Series model.
