New appointment at Volvo Trucks
Swedish manufacturer appoints Martin Merrick as senior vice-president for retail development
VOLVO Trucks have appointed Martin Merrick as their new senior vice-president – retail development. Mr Merrick, who was previously regional managing director for Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland, will now be based in Gothenburg where he will join the company’s executive management team, reporting directly to Volvo Trucks’ president, Claes Nilsson.
Mr Merrick, who began his Volvo career 28 years ago, has a wide range of experience in sales, aftermarket and dealer management. A Glaswegian and holder of a Volvo-sponsored MBA, he landed his first job in 1988 as a reception engineer at the company that imported Volvo trucks at that time – Ailsa Trucks Northern Ltd, in Barrhead.
Since then he has managed Dealerpoints, sales teams, workshops and aftermarket departments, and put the experience to good use in creating a customer-focused environment.
Volvo Trucks say Mr Merrick’s successful career, from dealer service reception area, via the managing director’s office, to senior vice-president with global responsibilities, is testament to the emphasis that Volvo place, long term, on facilitating personal development through high standards of training and development of competencies.
