Soil stabilization specialist appoints Andy Bareham as technical support manager

SMR (UK) have announced the appointment of Andy Bareham as their new technical support manager. The company develops and supplies a specially formulated additive to stabilize excavated spoil; cost effectively transforming it into a high-quality product that is said outperform many traditional materials.

Mr Bareham’s initial focus will be to provide technical support and help clients better understand how the SMR product can be used to ‘recycle’ existing spoil and related waste into reusable Type1 GSB material for use on existing construction projects.

He will also help expand SMR’s growing national network of recycling ‘Hub’ partners, each of which has access to the necessary mobile screeners, batch-mix equipment and specially formulated additives, allowing them to offer this as an additional service to their customers. Developing business development activities, including liaising with the regional Highway Authorities and Utilities Committees (HAUC's) and delivering national exhibitions, will also form key parts of Mr Bareham’s new role.

‘Mr Bareham is well known and highly respected in the materials recycling sector and, over the past few years, we actively tried to recruit him on a number of occasions,’ said Clare Stevens, managing director of SMR.

‘We were delighted when he agreed to join the SMR team and know he will be a great asset to our existing operation. He will help promote the benefits of our soil stabilization technology and through his numerous contacts will increase awareness of our solution plus expand our national network by establishing new partners.’

Mr Bareham joins SMR following an 18-month second-stint working as recycling manager for Clancy Plant, having spent the previous two-and-a-half years as recycling manager for Richardson Recycling. Prior to this, he was recycling manager (first stint) at Clancy Plant for five years and worked for E Davis & Sons on various reinstatement projects.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Bareham said: ‘With increased sector focus on the need to minimize the environmental impact of civil engineering projects, and with the ever increasing cost of landfill and higher recycling targets being set, SMR’s soil stabilization technology is now an extremely cost-effective solution. I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead; driving awareness and promoting the technical capabilities offered by the company.’
