More than 100 anaerobic digestion plant proposals in the pipeline
Although BDS Marketing Research says many of the planning applications have stalled
SPECIALIST research consultants BDS Marketing Research have identified 110 unimplemented consents for AD (anaerobic digestion) plants. Yet many have seen development stall while BDS also found that around a half were consented in 2014 or earlier.
‘It is questionable whether many of these older schemes will ever see the light of day,’ said report author Andy Sales. ‘However, this does provide an opportunity for investors looking to establish a presence in the sector. A proposal with planning consent means that one of the major hurdles has already been overcome. There is much still happening in AD markets. From our research, we have identified 50 AD plants that are currently under construction.’
BDS have recently published a comprehensive analysis of AD plants; sites that are operating, under construction and with planning consent. The BDS Directory lists 260 operational plants and more than 400 AD facilities in total.
At the same time BDS has brought out updated directories listing all materials recovery facilities (MRFs), household waste and recycling centres (HWRCs) and mechanical biological treatment (MBT) plants in the country. As well as the name of the operator and site address, capacity details are also included in the MRF and MBT directories.
