Marine sand and gravel – beyond the horizon
The sixth triennial EMSAGG conference will take place in Southampton at the end of next month
CIRIA has announced that the 6th triennial European Marine Sand and Gravel Group (EMSAGG) conference, ‘Marine sand and gravel – beyond the horizon’, will take place in Southampton from 28–29 June 2018.
Well-known for its track record of delivering high-quality agendas, the conference will include talks from some of Europe’s leading industry experts in the realm of marine dredging and will feature a keynote speech from John Tuckett, chief executive of the Marine Management Organisation.
Mark Russell, executive director of planning, mineral resources and BMAPA at the Mineral Products Association (MPA), said: ‘It is estimated that more than 3 billion tonnes of construction aggregate will be required to support the homes and infrastructure that society demands in Great Britain to the end of 2030.
‘Consequently, the role and contribution of marine-dredged sand and gravel resources as part of the wider portfolio of construction aggregate supply is of growing importance.’
With major investment to protect coastal infrastructure, improve national resilience and support social and economic aims being reflected in changing demands on the industry, the conference will provide a valuable insight into how the sector is responding to client needs and markets, including recent developments at a policy, technical, resource mapping and environmental performance level. It will also include a boat trip to view marine aggregate and other infrastructure along Southampton Water, plus an optional tour of the National Oceanography Centre.
Cees Laban, chairman of the European Marine Sand & Gravel Group, said: ‘This EMSAGG conference is the perfect opportunity to bring together leading experts and stakeholders from the dredging community to discuss how we can continue progress in this area.’
