Manitou participate in Chilean mine rescue
MANITOU telescopic trucks provided by local leasing company SK Rental played a part in the recent rescue of 33 miners who had spent 69 days trapped more than 600m underground in Chile’s San Jose copper and gold mine.
Three Manitou MT1030s were mobilized at the surface to transport the FENIX 2 rescue capsule as well as the steel tubes used to encase the first few metres of the drill hole in what was the deepest mine rescue operation in history.
In addition, two Manitou MT 732 machines were being used by for underground operations at the time of the mine collapse.
Following last month’s successful rescue of all 33 miners, the Chilean authorities called upon Manitou to accompany the now famous rescue capsule on a tour of honour. An MT1030S was chosen to handle the capsule and present it at some of Chile’s most important economic, industrial and political sites.
