LSS invest in new Liebherr machinery

LSS Waste Management

Leeds-based waste-management firm purchases Liebherr 550 loading shovels and a TL441-7 telehandler

LSS Waste Management have invested around £400,000 in two new Liebherr 550 wheel loaders and a TL441-7 telehandler to cope with an increase in workload at their Cross Green facility, in Leeds.

The latest arrivals cap off an investment of over £3.5 million in new plant and equipment in the past 12 months. LSS specialize in waste-management services and recycled aggregates supply, and the new machines mean the company now operates five loading shovels and three Liebherr 934 waste rehandlers, which are all used for recycling operations. The TL441-7 unit is being utilized to feed a new biomass plant.

According to LSS, the delivery of three new Liebherrs comes on the back of the purchase of additional Scania skip and hookloaders to the fleet.

Nigel Woolford, manager director of LSS Waste, said: ‘The amount of recyclable waste we are handling has grown by 20% over the last couple of years, and with our new biomass plant scheduled to open in the summer, things are only going to get busier. Liebherrs are one of the most expensive machines on the market, but cost is the last factor we consider when making a purchase that will be instrumental to the future growth of the business.

He added: Instead, we look at the build quality, fuel efficiency and aftersales service, while also taking into consideration the feedback from our machine operators who operate them on a 24/7 basis.’
