Liebherr ADT to make UK debut at Hillhead
30-tonne articulated dumptruck to be shown for the first time on Liebherr’s stand
The Liebherr TA 230 Litronic articulated dumptruck will be seen in the UK for the very first time on Liebherr’s stand at the Hillhead show. Already gaining success in continental Europe and also forming part of the Liebherr-Mietpartner rental fleet, the TA 230 Litronic is being brought into the UK initially as a demonstration unit for extensive customer trials. Full product availability throughout the UK and Ireland will start in January next year.
Compact dimensions, high payload
The 30-tonne TA 230 Litronic combines the compact transport dimensions of a 25-tonne machine with the payload of the next-higher category. Its transport width is under 3m and, with a 19m3 dump body volume, the TA 230 is the largest in its class with a shape specially designed for rapid dumping action.
The three strongly constructed rigid axles are the basis for a high-performance 6x6 driveline, with automatic transmission and torque converter. The ADT on display is driven by a 10.5-litre 270kW Liebherr D936LA6 diesel engine, which conforms with Stage IIIA / Tier 3 emission limits; Stage IIIB / Tier 4 interim will start at the end of 2012. With this powerful engine the dumptruck can attain a travel speed of 57km/h on a level surface. Four reverse gears are provided, with the travel speed limited electronically to 16km/h. The dumptruck has a oil-cooled wet brake system acting on the front and centre axles for maximum safety.
Functional machine design, striking appearance
The Liebherr TA 230 Litronic has eye-catching styling and the cab design provides maximum operator comfort and convenience and complies with the ROPS/FOPS safety standard. The large window area ensures an excellent all-round view. The seat is ergonomically designed and can be individually adjusted to suit the operator’s size and weight.
The automatic transmission, retarder controls and the dump control lever have a sensitive action to produce precise control. On the well-positioned, easily legible touchscreen display, the machine’s actual operating status can be checked without distracting the driver. The display can show the image supplied by the reversing camera (which is standard equipment) or actual temperatures, engine speed, air conditioning settings, time display, number of dumping operations or daily operating hours.
The high-quality front-axle suspension and shock absorber units, rated to withstand the toughest tasks, are another feature contributing to comfortable, safe and productive operating conditions.
Liebherr components for key technologies
The TA 230 reflects the Group’s policy of manufacturing components in-house for the key technologies.
Liebherr hydraulic cylinders have proved their reliability in arduous and demanding operating conditions; they are used on the articulated dumptruck model for dumping and steering movements. With its powerful dumping cylinders the TA 230 can discharge the contents of its dump body reliably in around 12 seconds and return to its initial position just as rapidly. The steering cylinders, also of Liebherr’s own design and manufacture, ensure directional stability and safe steering response even when working on very difficult terrain.
The machine’s electronics use a large number of modules manufactured in-house: the central machine computer, the I/O units and the built-in service and diagnostic systems.
The connection between the front and rear sections of an articulated dumptruck is exposed to the most severe loads. To ensure the necessary strength and rigidity in a tough day-to-day working environment, well-proven Liebherr slewrings are used.
Low-cost transport and efficient maintenance
The transport width of the dumptruck, including the rear hatch, is less than 3m; the TA 230 can be transported from site to site quickly and easily. Maintenance and servicing work on the TA 230 takes very little time. The cab and engine hood have electro-hydraulic tipping mechanisms for easy, fast access to all maintenance points.
Show model specifications and dimensions
The TA 230 Litronic on display includes a number of features: rear-view camera (standard); railings at front axle mudguards and left and right of the dump box; dump body flap; dump box heater; overload protection; rear halogen headlights on cab; rear screen guard; twin amber beacons on cab roof; and LiDAT fleet management system programming.
The operating weight (empty) is 24.30 tonnes, the payload is 30 tonnes and the dump body capacity is 19m3. Dumping time is 12 seconds, lowering time is 8 seconds and the dump angle is 70 degrees. Overall operating dimensions are 10.325m length, 2.960m width, and 3.395m to top of the cab.
