Key-exchange box guarantees safe machine maintenance

FRENCH safety specialist SERV Trayvou Interverrouillage (STI) have introduced a stainless-steel key-exchange box - the NX1000.

An initial key is inserted into the exchange box to release three keys that give access to areas or machinery whose safety conditions have been checked. For example, a machine that has been turned off, an electric circuit that has been opened and locked off, or a hydraulic system that has been prevented from operating will all allow the three access keys to be released.

As long as the three keys are not returned to the exchange box, the initial key remains trapped. It is therefore impossible for the machine or installation to be restarted while maintenance work is in progress.

The NX1000 forces operators to ensure that one or more safety conditions have been fulfilled before they are able to release the access keys.

The number of initial and/or access keys can be varied according to the specific requirements of a particular installation.
