JCB launch new JS20MH material handler

JCB JS20MH materials handler

Equipment manufacturer unveils its first dedicated machine for the waste and recycling industry

JCB have launched the new 20-tonne JS20MH materials handler, which has been developed for the waste-management and recycling sectors. The machine will target public and private companies handling municipal soild waste in civic amenity sites, transfer stations and materials recycling facilities.

Joining JCB’s established JS200W Wastemaster – a conventional wheeled excavator adapted for the needs of the scrap and waste-handling industries – the JS20MH capitalizes on the company’s expertise in the production of high-performance, reliable and durable wheeled excavators and shares the engine and hydraulics with the latest JS160W model.

The undercarriage on the JS20MH, however, is a completely new design and features a centralized slew turret for increased all-round stability and uniform lift performance throughout its 360-degree rotation.

This leads to consistent operation and ‘true material handler characteristics’, further aided by a slew gearbox which delivers increased slew accuracy while loading. Purpose-built for the waste and recycling environment, the machine will be available with a fixed or hydraulically raised cab for loading containers, giving improved vision and safety on site.

Powered by a 92kW (123hp) engine and fitted with a 5.7m straight boom, the JS20MH will be tailor-made for superior material-handling performance. Options include a 4.0m gooseneck dipper for scrap applications or a shorter 3.0m straight dipper for waste applications – each creating a smaller rig than the JS200W Wastemaster. The maximum achievable pin reach is approximately 9.5m.

An intelligent reversible fan delivers optimum cooling performance and a Turbo II air pre-cleaner provides additional engine filtration. Cab guarding, front and rear light guarding and red and white chevrons on the excavator’s rear end combine for machine protection and on-site safety, while operator comfort is enhanced by an air-conditioned cab.

The first JS20MH machines will be delivered to customers before the end of the year and full production will be under way in 2013.
