High-voltage overhead cable detection system

HVDS high-voltage detection system

HVDS from Transport Support available in a range of fixed, portable and all-weather versions

AVAILABLE from tipper truck safety specialists Transport Support, the HVDS (high-voltage detection system) is designed to prevent vehicles and machinery with variable heights from coming into contact with high-voltage overhead power lines.

The system consists of a cab roof-mounted detection antenna and an in-cab audio/visual warning unit (pictured), and can be supplied as either a stand-alone unit or an integrated part of Transport Support’s complete vehicle safety system.

Designed to sense the presence of overhead power cables from up to 80m away, thereby warning the driver/operator in advance of any potential danger, Transport Support say the latest model features a new detection antenna which is not only more durable and lighter, but also increases the sensitivity of the system.

The standard HVDS system is permanently mounted to the vehicle and uses a roof-mounted antenna to detect the presence of overhead power lines, although a portable format is also available which allows the system to be swapped between vehicles. This version features a suction-cup window mount, magnetic detection antenna and cigarette lighter power connection, thereby eliminating the need for permanent fixings.

An all-weather HVDS system is also available with the same specification as the standard version except that the control unit is designed to be mounted to the exterior of the vehicle. This version has an IP68 rating and features waterproof high-intensity LEDs and a loud external sounder.
