Company’s global brand for low-carbon and circular products has been introduced in the UK

HEIDELBERG Materials have introduced evoBuild – their global brand for low-carbon and circular cement, ready-mixed concrete, aggregates, and asphalt products – in the UK.

All evoBuild products have clear sustainability credentials: they are either low carbon – providing a CO2 reduction of at least 30% compared with a standard equivalent – or circular, containing a minimum 30% recycled content or at least 30% less material.

Along with evoZero, the world’s first carbon-captured net-zero cement, evoBuild will help set new standards for sustainable building materials and lead the pathway towards net zero and circularity. Heidelberg Materials say all their sustainable products will gradually be integrated into the evoBuild portfolio over the next few years.

Chief executive officer Simon Willis said: ‘Decarbonization and circularity are core pillars for our business. Introducing evoBuild products brings a global and transparent approach to product sustainability. It makes it easier for customers to specify more sustainable construction materials and will help us reach our target of generating 50% of our global revenue through sustainable products by 2030.’

Introduced to customers in Europe last year, evoZero uses carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology to achieve its net-zero status. Heidelberg Materials have been developing the industry’s first large-scale CCS facility in Brevik, Norway, since 2005. Once operational, it will capture 400,000 tonnes of CO2 annually and allow the production of evoZero.

By 2029 Heidelberg Materials are set to begin producing evoZero cement at their Padeswood site in North Wales, delivering another significant milestone in the decarbonization of the construction industry.
