Hanson set to announce restructuring
Jobs under threat as company reviews production capacity in the face of falling demand
HANSON are set to announce a restructuring process that is likely to involve a number of job losses following a significant drop in sales in 2012.
Workers at the company have been told that demand for core products, including asphalt, concrete and cement, has fallen by more than 10% during this year and that the situation is likely to get worse in 2013.
As a result, Hanson are undertaking a review of production capacity across all their operations and say they will have to take steps to match capacity to the prevailing market conditions. An announcement on the restructuring proposals is expected by the end of this month.
As yet, no details are available on the likely number of job losses, although it is understood the company will look at redeploying staff to other roles before redundancies are considered.
Part of the HeidelbergCement group, Hanson UK currently operate more than 350 manufacturing sites in England and Wales and employ in excess of 4,000 staff.
