Heidelberg Materials UK publish social impact report for 2023
Social worth impact in the UK in 2023 approaches double the figure achieved in 2022
IN 2023, Heidelberg Materials UK generated more than £98 million worth of social impact in the UK – approaching double the figure for 2022.
The amount stated in the company’s 2023 social impact report was established through the delivery of a range of different performance indicators using the Loop social monetization tool and has been externally validated. It reflects Heidelberg Materials’ commitment to supporting initiatives that benefit the lives and well-being of all affected by their activities, including the wider community.
Among the 2023 social impact highlights are reducing CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) by more than 380,000 tonnes using innovative solutions; employing 499 new people as well as 44 apprentices and 11 graduates; recording 1,720 volunteering hours; and investing more than £1 billion in the local economy.
‘Our social impact report covers the social, environmental, and economic value we generated for society in 2023,’ said sustainability director Marian Garfield.
‘This includes everything from the economic benefits to HMRC and the creation and protection of habitat, to reducing carbon emissions and improving the well-being of our stakeholders through activities such as charitable donations, training and qualifications, and community visits.
‘We are proud of the benefits we bring to the people and communities in which we operate in terms of employment, support for local communities, health and well-being and protecting the environment.’
