Hanson secure £5 million contract for NLE project
Company supplying 50,000 cubic metres of concrete for London Underground Northern line extension
HANSON have secured a new concrete contract worth £5 million for work on London’s high-profile Northern line extension (NLE) project. The concrete is being supplied from batching plants in Wandsworth and Wimbledon.
‘This contract will keep our teams busy for quite some time,’ said technical sales manager Jasen Gauld, who played a key role in winning the new deal. ‘The contract involves supplying 50,000 cubic metres of concrete and means there will be upstream benefits for other parts of the business.’
Work started in November with deliveries of a specialist concrete for deep reinforced foundations and piling at the site where the new Battersea tube station will be built. Hanson are using cement from Ketton and Regen from Purfleet, with aggregates coming from Whatley Quarry and marine-dredged sand from Dagenham.
The work is part of the extension to the existing Northern line on London’s underground network, which will provide new tube access in the Battersea and Vauxhall areas by 2020.
‘From a national commercial team perspective, the award of this new NLE contract is great news. It will build a strong portfolio for other work of this type in the area,’ said Mr Gauld.
He added: ‘I have been tracking this major project and working closely with our customer Cementation Skanska for some time. Trials took place at the Wimbledon plant where our operations and technical people joined forces to demonstrate our capabilities to the main contractor FLO and London Underground.’
