Hanson open new concrete plant in central Birmingham

New Landor Street facility increases company’s footprint in fast-growing West Midlands market

HANSON have opened a new ready-mixed concrete plant in Birmingham, increasing the company’s footprint and capabilities in the key West Midlands market.

The new multi-million-pound plant in Landor Street can supply all concrete needs – including high-volume, specialist mixes and low-carbon concrete.

The site has a large storage capacity, greatly reducing the frequency with which raw materials need to be brought in, and is also rail connected, allowing aggregates to be transported from Hanson’s rail-connected quarries.

This will keep more than 5,000 lorry journeys off Birmingham’s roads each year, equating to more than 376,000 miles, reducing congestion, and saving 4,546 tonnes of carbon emissions – equivalent to 1,630 return flights from Birmingham to Sydney, Australia.

The new plant includes a range of sustainability enhancements including energy-efficient equipment, a water-harvesting system, and the ability to store and incorporate reclaimed and low-carbon materials into the concrete mix.

‘Birmingham is expected to be one of the fastest-growing markets in the UK over the next decade and our new city centre plant is perfectly placed to support our customers and the city’s development,’ said Hanson’s concrete managing director Brian Charleton.

‘We offer a fast, efficient, reliable, and consistent supply of ready-mixed concrete and can supply any requirements, whether for a collect customer or for a large infrastructure project.’
