Hanson favour Komatsu
Marubeni-Komatsu have recently delivered a Komatsu WA500-3 wheel loader and a pair of HD405-6 rigid dumptrucks to Hanson Aggregates' Vaynor Quarry in South Wales.
Hanson extract around 400,000 tonnes of limestone from the quarry annually, ranging in size from 250mm material down to dust. The limestone is principally used in the production of blacktop and concrete products. The quarry also supplies blockstone for use on abutment and seadefence contracts.
The WA500 is used at the face to load blasted stone into the new HD405s. Cab layout and visibility were key factors in Hanson choosing the Komatsu trucks for this application.
Powered by a 379kW six-cylinder turbocharged Komatsu diesel engine, the 40-tonne capacity HD405 features a seven-speed K-ATOMiCS transmission which automatically selects the optimum gear according to vehicle speed, engine revs/min and the chosen shift position.
