Hanson choose Volvo

Hanson Aggregates have purchased a new Volvo L220D wheel loader to help streamline working methods at their Trentham Pit, near Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The pit produces quality sands as well as 10mm and 20mm gravels which are shipped mainly to the North-West and the Manchester conurbation. The washed and screened material used to be stocked in loading bays by a dumptruck. From there a loading shovel was used to load trucks with whichever product was required. The increased capacity available from the L220D has allowed both stocking out and loading duties to be undertaken by the one machine.

For this particular application, the 30-tonne loader is fitted with a 5.2m3 straight-edge bucket with reversible cutting edge. A boom-suspension system, comfort-drive control finger-tip steering and an RDS 8000 weighload device are fitted to enhance cycle times. A rear-view camera and radar detection system are fitted to the cab for improved safety.
