Goodyear launch new-generation mixed service tyres
Goodyear have recently introduced their new Omnitrac Mixed Service Steer II and Omnitrac Mixed Service Drive II (MSS II and MSD II) tyres. The two models are the first products in a new generation of mixed service tyres specifically designed to meet the needs of the construction industry and vehicles operating in both on- and off-road conditions.
The tyres are part of Goodyear’s Max Technology concept, which combines the latest compound materials with cutting edge design to enhance overall performance.
The Omnitrac MSS II and MSD II tyres have been designed to help operators save money in a variety of ways. Innovative technologies and the manufacturing process, such as optimized carcass construction deliver great durability and retreadability. This translates into tangible benefits for operators in terms of improved damage resistance in tough mixed-service conditions, corrosion propagation resistance and improved robustness. The design of the tyres means the MSD II offers 17% greater mileage potential, while both deliver good rolling resistance levels.
Both models are available with the optional DuraSeal technology. This feature, unique to Goodyear, stops air escaping if an object of up to 6mm diameter penetrates the tread. Even if the object is removed from the tyre the sealant still prevents air loss.
Goodyear will produce MSD II super single drive tyres in sizes 385/55R22.5 and 495/45R22.5. These have been developed in conjunction with Mercedes and Renault Trucks and offer considerable weight savings.
The new tyres also deliver enhancements over their predecessors in key traction and wet grip performance indicators. The MSS II/MSD II combination delivers a 6% better off-road traction, while wet-surface performance has also been enhanced. Wet road braking is 3% better, and wet circle tests demonstrate that the tyre combination provides 2% more grip when driving on wet roads.
