First Volvos for McGovern Plant Hire
Plant hire firm purchases two A25F articulated haulers for a prestigious muck-shifting contract
OFFERING a specialist plant hire and contracting service on high-profile infrastructure projects in the south-east of England, H McGovern & Son Plant Hire Ltd operate a mixed and diverse fleet of equipment which, until very recently, did not include anything with the Volvo brand on it.
However, having been awarded a prestigious muck-shifting contract, a need arose for articulated haulers capable of meeting the latest Stage IIIB emission requirements. Having evaluated what was available, McGovern opted for the market leader.
The new Volvo A25F hauler meets the requirements of Stage IIIB emissions legislation, being powered by an electronically controlled, six-cylinder, 235hp, turbocharged Volvo V-ACT diesel engine. Featuring high torque at low engine speeds, this is matched to a torque converter with built in lock-up function and fitted with a fully automatic fast adaptive transmission.
The new F-Series is not only more environmentally friendly, it is also more fuel efficient than the previous E-Series machines – by up to 4%.
With a carrying capacity of 24 tonnes and heaped capacity of 15 cubic metres, the Volvo A25F has a maximum speed of 53km/h. The trucks supplied to H McGovern Plant Hire Ltd are fitted with the optional cantilever tailgate for maximum load retention.
The new F-Series trucks are also equipped with Volvo’s CareTrack telematic system as standard. This allows remote monitoring of a wide range of machine functions (location, fuel consumption, service reminders etc), thereby optimizing customer operations.
‘We were keen to acquire trucks that had a good reputation and pedigree in the market that came with a reliable level of after-market support,’ said managing director John McGovern. ‘So far we’ve been satisfied with our investment.’
