First Volvo machine for TJ Waste & Recycling

Volvo EC140E excavator

Hampshire-based firm takes delivery of new EC140E excavator for waste handling duties

TJ Waste & Recycling have purchased their first-ever Volvo crawler excavator following a successful machinery demonstration at the operator’s material recovery facility (MRF) in Tipner, on the outskirts of Portsmouth.

‘We were impressed with the overall build quality, operator comfort, good visibility from the cab and the standard specification of the EC140E,’ commented John Gosling, managing director of TJ Waste & Recycling. ‘Besides being offered a competitive package, the machine is well suited to the working environment at our Tipner recycling facility.’

Powered by a Volvo Tier 4 Final/Stage IV engine that develops 122hp, the EC140E benefits from the addition of Integrated work model control, which significantly reduces fuel consumption by providing rapid dig cycles at a high level of efficiency.

In total, around 50,000 tonnes of materials, consisting mainly of construction waste, will be handled annually by the Volvo excavator at the Tipner MRF. To help segregate and sort these waste materials – up to 95% of which will be recycled – hose rupture valves are fitted as standard to the boom and dipper cylinders, as are quick-fit hydraulics and a hammer/shear service.

The EC140E has also been supplied with a Turbo II air pre-cleaner (for additional engine filtration) and a X3 rotation circuit to facilitate the use of a rotating selector grab. Another key feature of the excavator is the optional, reversible fan that helps purge debris and airborne particles from the coolers, reducing cleaning and maintenance time.

The EC140E has also been supplied with an SMT GB Level 2 ENHANCE service agreement, which ensures it is maintained by Volvo-trained service engineers, using genuine Volvo parts, filters and lubricants.

As part of the service support agreement, TJ Waste & Recycling will have access to Volvo’s advanced CareTrack telematics subscription service, which allows fleet managers to view real-time operational data (eg fuel consumption, idling data, machine utilization etc) to help minimize the company’s total running costs.
