Awarding organisation adds Road Surfacing Operative to portfolio of apprenticeship end-point assessments

EMPI Awards, who are listed on the ‘Register of end-point assessment organisations’, have been approved by the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) to deliver end-point assessments for the apprenticeship standard Road Surfacing Operative Level 2.

Road Surfacing was a natural extension for EMPI Awards, following end-point assessment (EPA) approval for Mobile & Static Plant Operator Level 2 earlier in the year.

This standard, developed by the Institute of Asphalt Technology, was created with help from the following employers: Tripod Crest Ltd, Eurovia Ltd, Hanson Contracting, MAC Surfacing Ltd, Tarmac Trading Ltd, Toppesfield Ltd, Power Plane Ltd, Aggregate Industries UK Ltd, DP Cold Planing Ltd and F&T Goodwin Ltd.

Road Surfacing Operative (RSO) is a multi-disciplined role critical to the country’s infrastructure. RSOs are responsible for the surfacing, resurfacing and improvement of vast stretches of the public and privately-owned highway network, covering all road types from motorways to residential streets.

Approximately 20 million tonnes of asphalt are laid each year by RSOs.

EMPI Awards say they look forward to engaging with employers and training providers to deliver this end-point assessment to future apprentices.
