Easymix Concrete purchase Volvo FL-210 4x2 rigid
New truck designed for 12-tonne gvw operation and is capable of placing 50 cubic metres of ready-mixed concrete per hour
CROYDON-based Easymix Concrete have taken delivery of a new Volvo FL-210 4x2 rigid from local dealers Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London. The 12-tonne gvw Volvo truck features rear air suspension and is fitted with a Schwing Stetter SP500 groundline concrete pump capable of placing 50 cubic metres of ready-mixed concrete per hour.
Steve Brown, managing director of Easymix Concrete, said ‘This is a pretty unusual unit as Schwing Stetter don’t tend to mount their pumps on Volvo trucks. That said, we absolutely wanted to use a Volvo FL so Schwing Stetter carried out the work and handled the Whole Vehicle Type Approval for us.’
The new FL joins nine truck mixers at Easymix Concrete, most of which are Volvo. The rigid is powered by a 5.1-litre Volvo D5K210 four-cylinder engine (210hp) which delivers up to 800Nm of torque at 2,800 rev/min and comes with a six-speed overdrive Volvo I-Sync automated gearbox.
For all-round visibility, the Volvo FL-210 has a low nearside kerb window and is equipped with a four-camera system. The truck – like the other Volvo vehicles already run by Easymix Concrete – is on a Volvo Gold repair and maintenance contract.
‘The dealer support is second to none,’ said Mr Brown. ‘All compliance inspections are arranged, organized and carried out by Volvo, so there’s no headache. I simply get an email telling me what, where and when. And, because there’s round-the-clock service, looking after the trucks really doesn’t impact the business.’
Easymix Concrete currently have 23 employees, 15 trucks and their batching plant in Croydon produces around 50,000 cubic metres of concrete per year.
Mr Brown commented: ‘We cover pretty much the whole of London and as such, when specifying this truck we needed it to be Euro-6 compliant. This level of technology meant it was a natural choice to turn to Volvo, as I completely trust the trucks and the dealer support.’
