Doosan launch new Stage IV-compliant wheel loaders

Doosan DL550-5 wheel loader

Latest DL450-5 and DL550-5 loading shovels offer improved fuel efficiency and operator comfort

DOOSAN Construction Equipment have launched their new DL-5 generation of Stage IV-compliant wheel loaders. Replacing the outgoing DL450-3 and DL550-3 Stage IIIB models, the new high-performance DL450-5 and DL550-5 wheel loaders are said to take productivity, fuel efficiency and operator comfort to the next level.

With bucket capacities ranging from 4.5 to 5.7 cubic metres, the latest machines are intended to meet a wide range of materials-handling needs from loading and transporting aggregates to industrial, mining and quarrying applications.

The DL450-5 and DL550-5 loaders are powered by the six-cylinder Scania DC13 engine, providing 257kW (354hp) and 283kW (380hp) of power, respectively, at 1,800 rev/min.

Providing generous torque at low rev/min and up to a 10% reduction in fuel consumption, together with excellent response, the Scania DC13 engine meets Stage IV emission regulations without the need of a diesel particulate filter (DPF), through the use of cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and selective catalyst reduction (SCR) after-treatment technologies.

Both wheel loader models feature an auto idle system which further reduces fuel costs by lowering the idle level from 950 to 750 rev/min if the operator does not give any input to the steering wheel, arm, and bucket for more than 10 seconds. This cost-saving feature is suitable for applications involving a lot of waiting such as truck loading.

The machines are also equipped with engine auto shut off which turns off the wheel loader after it has been idling for a specified amount of time (up to 60min).

In common with all next-generation DL-5 wheel loaders, the DL450-5 and DL550-5 models benefit from a ZF five-gear transmission that improves the transfer of power from the engine to the wheels and contributes significantly to the overall reduction in fuel consumption.

The machines also feature ZF limited-slip Type II differential axles with automatic hydraulic differential locking which provides further protection of the drive system components, including tyre wear reduction and enhanced traction.

Available only on the DL450-5 unit is the optional automatic limited slip differential, which provides maximum traction over soft and muddy ground with no need for a manual differential lock. This reduces the risk of skidding and prevents excessive tyre wear.

Available as an option on both the DL450-5 and DL550-5 front/rear axles is the oil cooler system – a new feature from Doosan that delivers higher axle oil-cooling capacity for demanding applications such as long-distance load and carry work in high temperatures.

Both new machines are equipped with a load-sensing hydraulic system whereby the variable axial piston pump generates the flow upon demand in the amount necessary to perform the work.

The wheel loaders have a boom kick-out function as standard, as well as a load isolation system (also known as ‘ride control’) that gives the operator a smoother and more comfortable ride over rough terrain at higher speeds. The benefits of ride control are reduced cycle times and higher productivity during load and carry applications.

The DL450-5 and DL550-5 loading shovels are also factory-installed with the CoreTMS state-of-the-art wireless fleet monitoring system – a feature not previously available as standard on Doosan wheel loader but is now incorporated in all new DL-5 machines.

The CoreTMS system offers a web-based fleet- and asset-management solution that allows users to manage the performance and security of machines and promotes preventative maintenance.
