Peter Johnson and Francesca Medda appointed as independent non-executive directors

SIGMAROC, the Northern European-quoted lime and limestone group, have announced the appointment of two independent non-executive directors to their board of directors. Both appointments will take effect on 13 April 2024, the day following SigmaRoc’s AGM.

Peter Johnson is widely recognized as one of the most successful executives in the building materials space having subsequently followed his executive career with a series of high profile non-executive roles for UK and European quoted groups.

He was previously chief executive of George Wimpey plc and prior to that chief executive of The Rugby Group plc up to its acquisition by RMC Group. Most recently he has been chairman at Electrocomponents plc and Wienerberger AG and was previously chairman of DS Smith plc.

Francesca Medda is a Professor of Applied Economics and Finance at University College London (UCL). She co-ordinated the digital strategy and plan of the Italian Financial Conduct and Supervisory Authority, CONSOB, and has also served as an adviser to Defra and HM Treasury and is a vice-president of the Parliamentary and Scientific Committee.

Ms Medda has worked with both the private and public sectors, including The European Investment Bank, The World Bank, UNESCO, UN Habitat, Willis Re, Halcrow group, and International Association of Public Transport (UITP).

She was also instrumental in the restructuring of two Italian infrastructure and transportation companies as a member of their boards and will bring a wealth of experience in the fields of public finance, ESG, innovation, and digitization.

Commenting on the appointments, Max Vermorken, chief executive officer of SigmaRoc, said: ‘We have made it our mission to systematically attract the best talent in the industry to our board, expand its competences, and increase its diversity. With the addition of Peter and Francesca we have again achieved that objective. We are hugely proud to have them and the existing members on our board.’
