A DEVELON demolition excavator equipped with specialized attachments is playing a crucial role in the dismantling of the former Tesla industrial site in Lanškroun, in the Czech Republic.

Project contractors Bisa spol are using a new DX380DM-7 high-reach excavator to complete demolition and disposal of rubble from the entire complex, as part of redevelopment plans for a new radio frequency chip production plant.

Supplied by local authorized Develon dealers Garnea a.s., the demolition excavator will be used once a manual strip-out of the factory's interior is finished and valuable materials, such as granite staircases, cast iron columns, and hand-carved beams, are recovered. The machine will then dismantle the four-storey external walls and chimneys.

‘The DX380DM-7 is the first Develon demolition machine we have used,’ said Jan Bican, managing director of Bisa. ‘We saw the excavator in action at another demolition site in the Czech Republic, and based on the good references, it was a clear choice for us.’

Develon product manager Vít Brůžek added: ‘We are pleased that Develon demolition machines are becoming increasingly popular in the specialized demolition industry. We are monitoring the job in Lanškroun in real-time through the My Develon app and are ready to provide the necessary service as needed.

‘Thanks to its extendable undercarriage, the DX380DM-7 is very stable, and, given the size of the job and the space around the building, it was the most suitable of the four demolition models we have available.’

The Develon DX380DM-7 demolition excavator represents the latest generation of heavy construction equipment, combining high performance with maximum operational efficiency.

Powered by a Stage V-compliant Scania DC09 five-cylinder engine with an output of 240kW (326.5hp) and 1,348Nm of torque, the machine is designed with the power to tear down the toughest structures (up to 23m high), and the power and stability to keep the operator completely safe.

The DX380DM-7 demolition excavator offers operators an exceptional working environment, particularly suited to high-reach demolition applications, thanks to a spacious 30-degree tilting cab, low noise levels, and an 8in Smart Touch touchscreen display.

Other key features of the machine include Develon’s advanced Smart Power Control (SPC) system, four power modes, and e-EPOS technology, which all contribute to efficient plant performance and reduced fuel consumption.

With an operating weight of 47.5 tonnes, the demolition excavator is designed for intensive use in demanding operating conditions. The robust X-shaped chassis design, forged components, and reinforced booms provide a long service life.

For added versatility, the innovative multi-boom design on the DX380DM-7 facilitates an easy change between a demolition boom and an earthmoving boom to deliver different types of work on the same project, using the same machine.

The high-reach demolition excavator also retains a hydraulically adjustable undercarriage, which extends to a maximum width of 4.37m to provide optimum stability when working on demolition sites. The width of the undercarriage can also be retracted hydraulically to 2.97m in the narrow width position, for easy transportation.

For added safety, the machine is equipped with a 360° camera system and anti-slip features. Maintenance is simplified thanks to easy access to all service points and automatic central lubrication.

The DX380DM-7 is compatible with a wide variety of attachments, including demolition hammers and quick couplers, making it a versatile tool for demolition/mining work.

On the ex-Tesla site project, the excavator required specialized attachments for the demolition task at hand. These included an MB crusher sorting grapple with a custom-made adapter, which was supplied and installed by Renomag.

The former Tesla site in Lanškroun has a history dating back to the 19th century. It originally served as a tobacco factory and, in 1944, was converted into an electrical engineering plant. Following World War II, the plant was incorporated into a newly established national enterprise, Tesla, a specialist in the production of electrolytic capacitors, resistors, and potentiometers.
