Long-serving Raymond Brown employee breaks the ground at company’s new sand and gravel site

PICTURED above as he completes his 50th year of service, Raymond Brown veteran Ron Isaac wields his shovel to break the ground at Roke Manor Quarry and commence construction of the site.

Mr Isaac, who reached his 50th year of continuous service with the company in April this year and is held in highest regard by the employees of the Group, was joined by Raymond Brown directors as he dug the first spadeful at the new site.

Located near Romsey, in Hampshire, Roke Manor Quarry has been seven years in development and achieved planning permission in 2011.

Works at the site will involve the extraction of 750,000 tonnes of sand and gravel at a rate of 125,000 tonnes per year. As the mineral is extracted, the quarry will be filled with inert construction material and later restored back to agricultural land at existing levels.

The project involves a 30-year woodland-management plan with mitigation for dormice, which were found on site during early investigations. This will involve a number of improvements to the natural habitat, including additional tree planting in accordance with the approved landscaping plan.

Describing Roke Manor Quarry as an exciting new opportunity for the company, Mark Isaac, managing director of Raymond Brown Aggregates, said: ‘We are an environmentally responsible organization operating a number of sand and gravel quarries within Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset and Berkshire, and we pride ourselves on our sustainable and proactive approach in dealing with our environmental, social and economic impacts.’
