CEMEX UK workers walk around the world

More than a quarter of the workforce takes part in challenge to improve fitness while raising money for charity

CEMEX UK employees are nearing the end of a month-long challenge to improve their health and fitness by walking 210 million steps or 95,000 miles.

The challenge is for the 84 teams consisting of 760 employees to walk around the world from 28 April (World Day for Safety and Health at Work) to 25 May, to improve their health and raise money for charity through sponsorship.

The company is committed to match funding of the money raised.

CEMEX UK’s health and safety director, Andy Taylor, commented: ‘The health and safety of our employees is of paramount importance and this challenge will help colleagues improve their fitness.

‘The interest in the challenge has been phenomenal with more than a quarter of the workforce taking part. Each person has been given a pedometer and will report the number of their ‘steps’ to their team leaders on a weekly basis.

‘We originally thought the challenge should be to ‘walk’ to our headquarters in Monterrey, but we are going to go a lot further than Mexico!’
