Cemex open new quarry in Shepperton
New quarry set to strengthen sand and gravel supply to the western area of the city of London
CEMEX are strengthening their sand and gravel supply in London by opening a new quarry in Shepperton, Surrey. Aggregates from this quarry will support key infrastructure projects in the city’s western area, which is undergoing urban expansion.
As sand and gravel become increasingly challenging to secure amid growing demand, approximately 1.2 million tonnes are expected to be excavated from this site within five years, with an additional year for land restoration to agricultural use.
The new quarry will help meet this growing demand for materials and expand Cemex’s presence to better serve their customers in the area, particularly for infrastructure projects.
Cemex say the opening of the quarry is part of their growth strategy, introduced in 2020, which focuses on bolt-on and margin enhancement across the company’s four core businesses, mainly in developed markets.
