AR Demolition clear quarry plant for Midland Quarry Products
Demolition and removal of fixed quarry plant, hard standing and foundations at Edwin Richards Quarry
Edwin Richards Quarry, located in the heart of the Black Country conurbation, supplied a quality basalt aggregate for construction purposes for over 100 years. Following the exhaustion of reserves, Midland Quarry Products employed the services of AR demolition to remove fixed plant, including a dry screen house, covered storage and an asphalt plant.
After a detailed asbestos survey and careful removal by AR Demolition Ltd of asbestos cement corrugated sheets, the work commenced to demolish the tall steel structures utilizing the company’s 50-tonne high-reach tracked demolition rig. Shear and grab attachments carefully cut and safely lowered sections of the buildings to the ground. The sorting of materials and the break out of all floors, hard standings and foundations prior to on-site crushing was also included in the contract.
Due to the exposed nature of the site, the presence of quarry dust and its proximity to residential areas, a robust environmental management programme was put in place to monitor noise and weather/wind conditions. Dust suppression was used throughout the works.
The whole site was made secure during the demolition programme and all floor voids, tanks and water-filled chambers were made safe and fenced off.
The removal of the buildings was completed within the required eight-week timescale.
