Another Volvo truck for Nicol of Skene
Aberdeen-based contractor adds second FH16-750 tractor unit to its equipment fleet
NICOL of Skene have purchased another Volvo FH16-750 6x4 heavy-haulage tractor unit, strengthening their fleet of high-specification Volvo trucks. Supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland, the FH16-750 features an I-Shift crawler automated gearbox and tandem axle lift.
The I-Shift gearbox offers a choice of one or two crawler gears, along with the option of extra reverse gears. The tandem axle lift is suited to a heavily loaded truck driven in one direction and empty in the other. According to Volvo Trucks, disengaging and raising the axle when not required can achieve a 4% reduction in fuel consumption.
Nicol of Skene have also opted for Volvo’s Globetrotter cab, featuring the company’s unique silver, blue and red livery with the cab sides dominated by a large stylish thistle design.
Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels and extra driving lights provide the finishing touches on the new FH16-750 unit, which will be deployed on low-loader and tipping trailer operations.
‘Our association with Volvo Trucks stretches back to the FL7 and FL10 ranges and further still on the construction side,’ said Derek Nicol, chief executive of Nicol of Skene. ‘The latter business invited me to Korea a few years ago to help design a five-tonne machine. Volvo Trucks build a good, robust all-round product and I find its Aberdeen dealership a very approachable business.’
