Volvo EC220E excavator

Demolition contractor bolsters mobile plant fleet with second EC220E excavator

CLEARANCE Services Ltd (CSL) are no strangers to owning and operating Volvo equipment having two smaller EC140E excavators, one purchased in 2015 and the other in February 2017, and a larger EC220E unit which arrived in June 2015.

The latest EC220E is an additional machine to the fleet and was purchased to satisfy the increasing number of groundworks and demolition contracts being undertaken by the company for its regular and new clientele base.

‘We consider the Volvo excavators to be top of the range when it comes to delivering a strong and powerful performance and especially for me, the operator comfort is second to none,’ commented Kofi Boulton, son of the company’s founder Derek Boulton and operator for the new machine. ‘All our excavators from 14 tonnes upwards are now Volvo excavators and besides their high level of performance, we appreciate the aftersales support from SMT GB when it is needed.’

Powered by a six-cylinder Volvo engine delivering 174hp, the EC220E offers the latest in engine technology and operating sophistication. For example, pump flow is controlled for combined digging and swinging operations to reduce the flow loss through the overload relief valves, while maintaining digging power and maximum swing torque. Also, when Eco mode is selected the machine provides better fuel efficiency without loss of performance in most operating conditions.

The EC220E excavator includes: hose rupture valves to both boom and dipper cylinders; quick fit hydraulics; hammer/shear hydraulic lines; and a Miller Mate coupler alert safety alarm. This was a requirement of CSL to meet the demand from a growing number of customers wanting to work with quick attachment couplers and the safe changing of attachments on site.

On the latest Volvo machine, CSL have taken out a Gold service agreement which means SMT GB can take care of the total maintenance programme of the machine for a fixed monthly figure. The service agreement ensures the machine is inspected and serviced at regular intervals, delivering essential maintenance work at the right times and using genuine Volvo parts carried out by trained technicians.
