Aggregates operator boosts efficiency with Telestack equipment
New Titan T1600-8 bulk reception feeder supplied to match increased throughput capacity and improve product quality
THE aim of a recent project for a major producer/supplier of construction materials in North America was very clear and simple for Telestack: to design and build a bulk reception unit that could handle throughput rates of up to 2,000 tonnes/h and have the ability to receive a payload from a Cat 777 off-highway truck.
Using the latest sophisticated modeling software, Telestack designed and produced their largest mobile bulk reception feeder – the Titan T1600-8.
Critical to the project was the client’s need to tip directly on to a unit for barge loading which would eliminate the double handling of materials, thereby reducing both cost and loading time, and providing a higher quality of materials (primary crushed stone, sand and gravel) due to the reduction in material-handling.
To transport the crushed aggregate by truck was deemed expensive, cumbersome and not the most environmentally conscious method. Furthermore, due to the strategic location of this particular quarry, the transport of the majority of the aggregate products has to be carried out via river barge.
Key to the success of the project was the continuous and consistent supply of thousands of tonnes of material, with minimal downtime and a maximum level of throughput.
The Titan T1600-8 bulk reception feeder is a fully mobile track-mounted conveyor designed to handle up to 2,000 tonnes/h. Telestack’s Titan range of feeders is designed to be loaded directly from trucks, wheel loaders, grab cranes, excavators etc, receiving up to 60 cubic metres.
Titan equipment can be used to stockpile material, feed auxiliary equipment, reclaim to other conveyors and directly load ships, barges, trucks and rail wagons. As it is track mounted, the Titan T1600-8 provides effective mobility and operational flexibility on site.
Weighing 115 tonnes and measuring 35m in length and 8m in height, the unit features a 3m feeder belt. For economy and efficiency, the Titan bulk feeder is equipped with a diesel engine for track movement and hydraulic set-up function, while electric motors power the conveyor belts. The dual-power functionality also allows the customer to connect to a local power source, reducing running costs, noise and pollution.
Padraig McDermott, international sales manager with Telestack, commented: ‘This has been an exciting project for Telestack and our ports and inland terminals department. We were confident in our design and build as we have over 10 years’ experience in bulk reception feeders ranging from tracked, wheeled and static versions in a range of applications across the globe. Our client is a multi-national giant and feedback has been excellent with the unit performing above expectations.’
