AGGPRO recently reached a significant milestone with their first sale to Chepstow Plant International, supplying a new McCloskey R155 screener that marks the start of a key strategic partnership with a shared vision and promising future potential

Chepstow Plant International (CPI) are a highly respected name in the UK aggregates and earthmoving contracting sectors, with core expertise in bulk and engineered earthworks, quarrying/mining services, fleet management, and material handling.

Operating primarily within the mineral products and aggregates industry, CPI were established more than 50 years ago and today are renowned for their award-winning commitment to safety and focus on continuous improvement through innovation. Notable advancements include the use of inclinometers on articulated dumptrucks (ADTs), the launch of the UK’s first autonomous ADT, and, more recently, the introduction of a pioneering ground-level refuelling system on Volvo F-Series excavators.

In a recent significant development, the company has established a new business relationship with AGGPRO, a leading specialist in the supply, service, and aftermarket support of crushing, screening, and washing equipment to the quarrying and waste-recycling sectors.

Reaching out to AGGPRO, CPI have bolstered their mobile plant and aggregates processing fleet with the addition of a McCloskey R155 high-energy screener, an investment that highlights the mineral products contractor’s continued dedication to providing reliable, high-performance equipment that supports productivity and sustainability across its operations.

Strategic partnership

CPI’s collaboration with AGGPRO has been strengthened following the latter’s recent acquisition by SMT GB – a long-standing strategic partner of Chepstow. Their relationship with SMT GB stretches back to 2017, following SMT’s acquisition from Volvo CE, and has since grown significantly.

Throughout the strategic partnership, CPI have invested more than £150 million and purchased over 600 machines, highlighting the strength and depth of their relationship with SMT GB. The recent integration of AGGPRO brings together the equipment distributor’s specialist knowledge of McCloskey International machinery with SMT’s nationwide presence and customer support network.

As a result, CPI will benefit from a cohesive and responsive service experience, enhanced by tailored product expertise and broader operational resources, helping to maximize equipment uptime and long-term value.

John Corcoran, managing director of Chepstow Plant, commented: ‘We were approached by a long-term client of ours who wanted to further improve site operations and explore vertical integration opportunities with Chepstow. This came at an opportunistic time for us, as we were actively exploring different workstreams to complement our existing contracts in the quarrying sector.

‘Up until this point Chepstow had not explored screening opportunities, but once we learned of SMT and AGGPRO’s merger, things started to make sense. Through leveraging our strategic partnership with SMT, we were able to quickly work with AGGPRO to identify the most effective machinery for the job and deliver a cost-effective solution to our customer.’

Built to tackle the toughest challenges

The McCloskey R155 machine has earned a strong reputation for handling demanding materials such as overburden, blasted rock, and recycled construction waste with impressive efficiency. The popular 32-tonne screener consistently produces clean, high-quality output without the need for extensive pre-processing. Its versatile design supports a wide range of applications while the dual-power option increases operational flexibility, reducing fuel consumption and lowering emissions.

For CPI, these qualities made the R155 screener an excellent choice. Iain Ormrod, Chepstow Plant’s operations director, remarked: ‘For this contract, we had to deliver a set daily output in a demanding environment. After our research and talking with select members of our sector, we were drawn to the McCloskey R-Series screeners. Having worked hard to establish ourselves in the aggregates and mineral sector, this specialized addition will hopefully be the first of more to come as we expand on our service offering.’

The purchase of the new McCloskey R155 screening unit also marks the beginning of a key strategic partnership between CPI and AGGPRO, aimed at delivering smarter, more efficient solutions across the wider construction and aggregates industry. The timing is significant, as McCloskey International celebrate their 40th anniversary, underscoring the OEM’s continued leadership, expertise, and innovation in crushing and screening technology worldwide.

‘We’re proud to support Chepstow with the R155 – a proven machine backed by expert service,’ said Steve Peterson, managing director of AGGPRO. ‘This is a strong first step in a partnership between Chepstow, AGGPRO and SMT GB that is focused on performance, uptime, and added value.’

Reliable service, responsible solutions

Since 2007, AGGPRO have been a trusted dealer for McCloskey International, offering expert guidance, technical support, and a robust after-sales support service. The delivery of Chepstow’s R155 strengthens this enduring relationship, underscoring the confidence customers place in both brands.

Ross Hayward, CPI’s asset director, commented: ‘As a business, we invest in market-leading OEMs that deliver optimal total cost of ownership to both us and our clients. Dealing with AGGPRO to ensure the new R155 screener is perfectly set up for the job has been a straightforward process, particularly with the fine-tuning suggestions and alterations to ensure we hit our output targets.

‘This, coupled with setting up extended warranties, has meant the investment in the R155 got off to the ideal start, and we look forward to exploring other market options in the future with AGGPRO and SMT.’

The combined strengths of AGGPRO and SMT GB have created a reliable and efficient support network that ensures quicker response times, broader service coverage, and enhanced confidence in equipment maintenance. Chepstow gain the advantage of AGGPRO’s hands-on technical insights paired with SMT GB’s established infrastructure and customer network. This unified approach not only drives operational progress, but also reinforces a commitment to sustainable, efficient solutions for the future.
