WRG stay top of the pile in landfill

WRG are still the largest landfill company in Great Britain, with an estimated 23% of the market. They are now market leaders in all regions with the exception of the West Midlands and northern Britain, and they have no presence in the South West.

These conclusions are part of an annual report by BDS Marketing Research Ltd, which estimates the volumes of waste accepted at individual landfill sites across the country. For each site and company, BDS have estimated the amount of waste accepted in 2004 with the information broken down into inert, household and other wastes. Market shares on a county, regional and national basis have then been calculated.

BDS estimate that the second largest landfill company is Biffa, followed by SITA, Viridor and Cleanaway. These top five companies now represent nearly 60% of the market, but despite this concentration the report identifies a total of 174 companies in the sector.

Further details of the report entitled: ‘Estimated waste volumes deposited at landfill sites in Great Britain’ are available by contacting BDS Marketing.
