Waste-management group expand materials handling fleet

Augean plc, who specialize in providing a wide range of services in the hazardous waste sector, have taken delivery of the first Liebherr machines to join their large materials handling fleet. The four LR 634 Litronic fully hydrostatic crawler loaders, which are specifically designed for landfill operations, have been deployed at three of Augen’s landfill facilities near Middlesbrough and Peterborough.

The machines are being used for a wide variety of tasks including stockpiling, moving and levelling the incoming waste material, as well as spreading, dozing and grading landfill cover. Additionally, they are also being used for general civil engineering work at the sites, such as building and maintaining haul roads and bunds.

Commenting on the company’s latest acquisitions, Ken Priestley, Augen’s group plant manager, said: ‘The decision to buy our first Liebherr machines was based on a number of important factors – primarily industry-specific build quality, value for money and performance. We were also impressed with the after-sales product support and have taken all these loading shovels with full R&M contracts.’

Standard landfill specification on the LR 634 Litronic includes: lift cylinder covers; external air supply alternator; exhaust manifold isolation; radiator guard; engine air pre-cleaner with automatic dust ejection; cooling system reversible fan; final-drive protection rings; and fine perforated plates to the engine housing. The crawler loaders supplied to Augean also feature a 2m3 clamshell waste-handling bucket with trashguard.
