Wardell Armstrong appoint new group MD

Mike Hassall

Mike Hassall takes over from Colin Brown

ENGINEERING and environmental consultancy Wardell Armstrong have appointed Chartered Engineer Mike Hassall as group managing director, with effect from April 2013. He takes over from Colin Brown who will continue as a director and become non-executive chairman.

Mr Hassall (pictured), who is a Fellow of the Institution of Materials, Minerals and Mining, a member of the Association of Geotechnical Specialists and a member of the Institute of Management, has had a long career with Wardell Armstrong, having joined in 1981 as a graduate engineer with a degree in engineering geology and geotechnics.

During his 32 years with the firm, he has specialized in site investigation and land remediation relating to mining, contamination and waste issues, and has led many major UK infrastructure and development projects.

He was also instrumental in developing the firm’s UK network of 11 offices, and his past roles have included finance director, regional director of the Stoke office and, most recently, UK managing director.

Commenting on his appointment as group managing director, he said: ‘I’m very proud to be taking over the running of a consultancy that’s British, wholly owned by its working partners and directors, and totally independent.

‘I’m looking forward to continuing to grow our business, especially overseas where we can build on our strong position in international mining by offering energy, waste, environmental and other services.’
